Concordia University-Portland’s new student orientation had an extra booth this year, sponsored by MBS Direct. Account Manager Russell Jeffrey and Director of Client Services Kelly Jones headed west Aug. 21 to represent Direct at the event.
The two first flew to California for dinner with the representatives from HotChalk who handle online registration for Concordia University-Portland. While they were eating at a local restaurant, the representative mentioned that he and his wife had recently purchased a 20 acre farm, and were now the proud owners of a horse and a pair of mini donkeys. He suggested having the next day’s follow-up meeting at his farm so the MBS Direct reps could see it and the animals in person.
The farm was beautiful, and meeting the miniature donkeys ended up being one of the highlights of the trip.
Next, Jones and Jeffrey headed to Portland, where several hundred students and parents attended the orientation Saturday. “Being there in person provided real value,” Jones said. “Since the school doesn’t have a physical bookstore, meeting us let the students put a face on their online bookstore.”
The students were especially excited by the raffle sponsored by MBS Direct, which awarded a $100 textbook scholarship to one lucky student. Jones said that as parents walked by and noticed the signage for the raffle, they would find their children and make them fill out an entry. Between 150 and 200 students entered for their chance to win.
This was the first time that Direct was represented at orientation for Concordia University- Portland, but Jones plans on making a similar appearance next year because of the event’s success.
