Getting the most out of Course Director can improve so many things for your school. Most of our schools are at least familiar with the basics (if you’re not, then contact your account manager as soon as possible), but we have a few expert tips and tricks to help you get the most out of the Course Director experience.
Utilize multiple users and multiple functionalities
With Course Director, there’s no reason to put all of the responsibility on one person’s shoulders. Your school can create multiple users for each step of the adoption process. For example, you can give your teacher an account for reviewing and approving the book he or she would like to use, then give your department chair an account to review the teacher’s selection and finally, give your booklist person an account in order to oversee the entire process and submit your courses to MBS Direct.
Departmentalize your adoptions
Course Director allows you to assign specific users to only certain sections of the site. For example, if you’re concerned about a rogue faculty member accidentally submitting their adoption to MBS Direct, you can restrict their profile to the point where they do not have access to anything but their specific program or section of the site (if your school is set up with multiple sites).
[Higher Ed.] Create a course catalog
Keep all of your adoptions in one place by creating a course catalog. Course catalogs allow you to track your adopted course materials year to year. This speeds up the adoption process by eliminating the need to restart the step-by-step adoption process every single term.
Search by taxonomy
Searching by taxonomy lets you search and see what other, similar schools have adopted, all based on subject. Ideally, this will expose your school’s instructors to useful texts that they may not have otherwise come across.
Research digital options
If MBS Direct has a known association between print and digital for a given textbook, we will show the digital option’s availability within Course Director. Given the ever-growing popularity of digital, we hope that this will make researching and choosing the right digital option easier for your school. Along those same lines, price to student is available within Course Director, which schools can use to their advantage when trying to lower the cost of textbooks to their students.
Set up training sessions for your staff
Getting everyone on your staff up to speed on the ins and outs of Course Director can greatly improve and simplify the entire adoptions process for your school. We offer numerous training options, including video tutorials and live demonstrations. Submit your adoptions in batches
Rather than an “all or nothing” process, Course Director’s functionality allows for approved adoptions to be submitted multiple times before the deadline. This allows MBS Direct to begin securing inventory as courses are submitted while eliminating the need to wait for an instructor who may need additional time to make their adoption decisions.
