Throughout the year, MBS Direct team members make an effort to give back to the community by volunteering at the Central Missouri Food Bank. On or around the 15th of each month, 10 volunteers head over to lend a hand with tasks like packing individual servings of cereal from bulk packages for the Buddy Pack program or relabeling canned food donations (when ingredients are left off the label, the items can’t be sold in stores and are then donated).
“We also have volunteers signing up to go to the VAC for two hour shifts to help hand out the gifts,” LeBel said. “We had about 15 people sign up the first week we posted the list. Everyone gets really involved!”
In addition to racking up the volunteering hours, Direct also has plenty of holiday fun planned, thanks to the recently-formed party planning committee (which also helps coordinate and direct volunteer efforts). In the days leading up to Christmas, the group will have a holiday potluck luncheon, a two-day Secret Santa gift exchange (complete with an elf to hand out gifts) and an Ugly Sweater competition.
