Cape Henry Collegiate is known for its academics, but if you ask Head of Middle School Amanda Hayes, families choose the Virginia independent school for its focus on knowing, valuing and challenging each of their pre-K through 12th grade students. With 900 students and a 10:1 student-teacher ratio, it's fairly easy to do.
So when their previous course material fulfillment provider struggled to provide the same level of attention and care to providing families with quality materials and service, the school knew it may be time to find a better fit.
That's why CHC partnered with MBS Direct to provide its students and families with their required course materials, beginning with the 2016-2017 school year.
"It’s been a really smooth transition," Hayes said. "One of the features that was a big draw for us, and has been very well received for our families, is Shop by Schedule. Parents can go into the Online Bookstore, enter their student's ID number and see an automatically generated list of the books they need, rather than needing to sort through different offerings. It's very user friendly, and exactly what we were looking for."
An easier ordering process is just one of the advantages Cape Henry Collegiate and its students have received from the switch to MBS Direct. Cape Henry is a 1:1 Chromebook school for its 1st through 8th grade students, but its high school has an optional bring-your-own-device policy. As such, the school relies on its course material fulfillment provider to have access to a range of both digital and print options.
"Access codes had been a challenge for us previously," Hayes said. "In working with MBS, if there’s a digital option it comes up automatically on the Online Bookstore, which is great. There isn't a lot of searching on our end to figure those out, and we don't have to say whether we want to offer digital or a hard copy: when we submit the book's ISBN, whatever’s available is easily offered through MBS Direct."
In addition, Hayes said the school was pleased with MBS Direct's expanded marketplace offerings, which can help students save upwards of 95% off the list price.
Hayes also noted that MBS Direct even made promoting their course material selection to families a much easier task.
"MBS Direct has been wonderful to work with, and we made good use of the marketing materials they've provided, which is another great feature," she said. "I did a whole series of Facebook posts using the pieces pre-generated in the marketing program. It was easy to go in, access what we need and put things out there that might have caught the attention of our families, especially as we were getting closer to the start of the school year.
"Our focus in making the transition was on customer service for families, so marketing, marketplace and Shop by Schedule made it easy to address the concerns we had from previous years."
